Pre-flight checkin. Picking up my stylish purple and yellow PMC socks at registration the night before the ride. We went there just before closing so the place was quiet (pro-tip!) and quick.
Next step, your bag goes on the truck coded by where you are staying in dorms at the Mass-Maritime Academy. I was supposed to be in dorm 1, but more on that later...
There's a sea of bikes here, ready for the morning. Amazing to see just how many riders there are going to be in the morning!
My friend John lives about a mile from the start, so we opted to roll out of his house and join up with the PMC just a bit after the group-start. His kids were up early and made up our own personal cheering section!
About 20 miles in at the first water stop, Carrie secretly drove down there so she could cheer me on! Was super nice to see her there!
About 60 miles in... we were on the brink of delirium from the heat!
But finally, we arrived at the MMA. A cold drink, the Adam Ezra Group playing on stage... it wasn't too hard to take ;)
The weather was absolutely amazing, barely a cloud in the sky the entire day. Soooo much better than last year!
Now I said "originally" I was going to stay in dorm 1... but fate had a treat in store. One of my friends, had a friend, who has an amazing house just around the corner on the cape. He was riding in the PMC this year and invited all of us to stay at his place.
The beach was literally the back yard. We had nice beds, showers, towels… it was awesome. Definitely raised the bar ;)
The only downside was that we had to be up at 3:15am in order to be back to the MMA in time for the early morning start.
Another beautiful day… I think the best year ever.
There’s a spot along the way known as “Da Hedge” which has signs about 10 miles leading up to it. I tried to capture the cheering fans as I went by. It’s definitely one of the biggest cheering sections on the ride, but there are tons of supporters like this all along the ride. Super motivating!
Just a short 163 miles later, we rolled into Provincetown. It was the best year yet I think, but I’ll be back next year to make it even better. Thanks again to everyone who supported me on this ride, I couldn’t have done it without you!
